Minister of Indigenous Services Marc Miller said on Thursday that he and Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Carolyn Bennett, along with other Canadian ministers, will be meeting on Friday with Indigenous representatives, health officials and provincial/territorial representatives to “start the work” to eliminate systemic racism “experienced by Indigenous people in Canada’s health-care system. This comes after the Sept. 28 death of Atikamekw woman Joyce Echaquan, who experienced racist treatment at Joliette Hospital by health-care providers in the hours before she died, which was caught on video.
