Mayor Don Iveson explained how providing proactive social services as part of supportive housing is more cost-effective in the long term than reactively responding to issues surrounding homelessness, mental health and addictions via emergency services and the justice system. Iveson added he visited Camp Pekiwewin and spoke with residents who expressed the importance of community.
