On Friday, an Ontario Superior Court judge found a Toronto police officer guilty of assault in the 2016 beating of Dafonte Miller, a young Black man. Speaking after the verdict was handed down, one of Miller’s lawyers, Julian Falconer, on Friday said that police brutality toward Black and Indigenous people in North America is a “systemic, chronic problem.”
