The U.S. House of Representatives passed a police reform bill on Thursday named after George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis, MN on Memorial Day. The bill includes a ban on chokeholds and would make it easier to file civil lawsuits against officers accused of misconduct, but is not expected to go further as Senate Republicans have called it a “non-starter.”
