During Monday’s coronavirus update, Toronto Mayor John Tory said that he, along with other mayors from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and regional chairs, had discussed the “recent tragedies which affected people in personal crisis” and “in some instances, losing their lives,” calling for reform in the Special Investigations Unit (SIU). Tory likely alluded to an incident from over the weekend where a Mississauga, Ont. man who suffered from schizophrenia was shot by police officers during a wellness check.
