Toronto Mayor John Tory on Thursday announced that the use of face masks would be made mandatory for passengers riding the city’s public transit, the TTC, in order to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus as of July 2. The mayor said that as businesses begin to reopen, transit will become busier, making it harder to practise social distancing without a protective face covering.
