According to White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, U.S. President Donald Trump is staunchly opposed to renaming U.S. military bases named after Confederate military leaders, she said on Wednesday. Some people have called for the removal of Confederate leaders’ names from the bases due to the Confederate States of America’s history of slavery and racism. In a statement read before the White House Press Corps, Trump said he believes the changes would be disrespectful to the military, in his view.
