A family member of George Floyd, a Black man who died in police custody on Memorial Day, spoke at a memorial in Hoke County, N.C. on Saturday and called for an end to systemic racism and police brutality. Christopher Simmons was one of many at the memorial service who called for change, saying that what was happening in the country was “an allergic reaction to an ongoing issue” and that police brutality, like the coronavirus, had “yet to find a cure.” Ruby Floyd, the wife of George Perry Floyd Sr., also spoke during the service and talked about how loving the family was and said that while she was not one to preach, “God is on our side.”
