Born in Lindsay, sister Ruth Hennesy entered holy orders with the Sisters of Saint Joseph in 1956. She taught school in Peterborough, Kirkfield and Cobourg.
On retirement, she began working with refugees and immigrants, establishing Casa Maria in Peterborough along with two others. In 2018 she was the recipient of the Peterborough Women’s Leadership Award for lifetime achievement for her work with immigrants, including Peterborough Kawartha MP Maryam Monsef and her family.
