The Wuhan Institute of Virology in Wuhan, China said Tuesday that any suggestion of its involvement in contributing to the novel coronavirus pandemic is “pulled out of thin air,” with lab officials saying they didn’t have the technical capability to design a new coronavirus even if it wanted to. American media including the Washington Post and Fox News have reported that the institute may have had lax safety standards, which could have allowed a virus to escape containment.
