Top U.S. Navy officials are recommending Capt. Brett Crozier, who formerly commanded the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt, a Nimitz-class nuclear powered aircraft carrier, be reinstated as the ship’s commander. Crozier was ousted earlier in April after an email he sent about a novel coronavirus outbreak on his ship was made public, an action criticized by then acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly as poor judgment for sending his plea outside the chain of command. Crozier has since tested positive for COVID-19, along with more than 850 other sailors from the ship, according to reports.
