U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that he had not asked the acting U.S. Navy secretary Thomas Modly to resign over comments calling ousted Navy commander Capt. Brett Crozier “too naïve or too stupid.” Trump reiterated his belief that Capt. Crozier had made a mistake in drafting a memo to his superiors calling for the USS Theodore Roosevelt to be taken out of service so that COVID-19 wouldn’t run rampant through his crew.
