Coronavirus outbreak: Pope begins Holy Week amid COVID-19 lockdown

St. Peter’s Basilica was empty on Palm Sunday as Pope Francis marked the beginning of Holy Week. The ceremony typically draws tens of thousands to St. Peter’s Square, but amid the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown in Italy, approximately two dozen people attended, including a few aides, nuns and a scaled-down choir. The Pope urged people not to be concerned by what they lack, but how they can ease the suffering of others.
