Dr. Deborah Birx, head of the White House’s coronavirus task force, said on Thursday that the debate is still ongoing about whether to revise guidance around wearing masks in public, saying one issue is they don’t want people to have a “false sense of security” wearing a mask in that they could be protecting others but would not necessarily be protecting themselves. She said one reason for this is that people’s eyes are still exposed and if someone touches their eyes, if could be a risk factor.
