In the U.S. this week, General Motors began production of face masks and ventilators to provide to hospitals, after President Donald Trump allowed the company to do so using the Defense Production Act. By March 30, the first test masks were rolling off the conveyor belt. It’s expected the first 20,000 masks will be delivered by April 8, with the company to produce an estimated 1.5 million masks a month when at full capacity.
