U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he had invoked the Defense Production Act (DPA) to compel General Motors to take contracts to produce ventilators. He said he also signed an executive order investing the Departments of Health and Homeland Security with full authorities under the DPA to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Assistant to the president Peter Navarro was also named the National Defense Production Act policy co-ordinator for the federal government.
