U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that the country must stay united as they continue to try and contain the spread of COVID-19, adding the Asian American community must be protected and the spread of the disease was “not their fault.” The message comes amid ongoing criticism Trump has faced for calling the novel coronavirus the “Chinese Virus,” with some politicians expressing concern it could lead to hate crimes against Asian Americans.
