Major airlines sought a U.S. government bailout of more than $50 billion on Monday as the White House urgently worked on drafting a financial assistance package in the wake of the steep decline in travel caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. The trade group representing the airlines said that in order to survive, the industry would need $25 billion in grants, $25 billion in loans, as well as tax relief.
