Speaking at the Women in Capital Markets (WCM) event in Toronto on Thursday afternoon, Governor of the Bank of Canada Stephen S. Poloz addressed the factors behind the recent decision to cut interest rates. He said that in addition to the spread of COVID-19, which will significantly disrupt the global economy, there are other factors such as the Ontario teachers’ strike, unusual weather conditions, and the rail blockades which factored into this decision.
