Lawyer says federal government cannot direct RCMP to arrest activists blocking rail lines

Sara Mainville, a partner at the law firm Olthuis, Kleer, Townshend LLP, told Global News on Wednesday that the federal government cannot and “should not” direct the RCMP to arrest activists blockading rail lines in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en Nation, explaining that the police force operates independently of the government.
