New Zealand police said on Saturday that more than 60,000 firearms had been returned as part of the firearm amnesty program that began about six months ago after weapons and parts were outlawed in response to the Christchurch shooting. The police minister added that if people still owned one of the prohibited weapons, they could face up to five years in jail.
