Protests flare as India passes controversial citizenship law

India’s ruling Hindu nationalist government won parliamentary approval on Wednesday for a far-reaching citizenship law that grants Indian nationality to Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jain, Parsis and Sikh refugees from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan but not to Muslims.
