Syria’s government has sent troops to help Kurdish forces defend themselves from the Turkish-led Operation Peace Spring. The Kurds have mostly avoided getting involved in the war between the Syrian regime and rebels. But as Redmond Shannon reports, the Turkish military offensive is forcing the Kurds to seek help from President Bashar al-Assad and his Russian-backed forces.
