The Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Hubert Minnis, ordered evacuations on Aug. 30 as Hurricane Dorian strengthened into a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Wind Scale, leading the U.S. National Hurricane Center to say it could be a significant threat to Florida and the northwestern Bahamas.
