Crew from the North Kawartha Fire Department battled a blaze near Coon Lake on Saturday.
The call came in around 11:30 a.m. for a fire just north of Burleigh Falls. According to fire chief Jesse Lambe, approximately a dozen firefighters worked in the extreme heat, using portable pumps to draw water from the lake. They managed to quickly contain the three-quarter acre blaze in a short amount of time. But firefighters remained on site all day making sure there weren’t any hotspots.
The fire chief believes the fire was caused by an improperly extinguished campfire.
