Winner of the 3-minute thesis focuses on abuse at Huronia Regional Centre

Graduate student Katherine Viscardis said she was shocked to hear the tragic stories associated with the Huronia Regional Centre, a former hospital in Orillia.

Several former residents of the centre came forward to share their stories of abuse at the hands of staff members, which eventually forced the province to settle a lawsuit with survivors and issue an apology. V

Viscardis says she was moved to share and honour their stories. She won the 3-minute thesis competition at Trent University earlier this week.
