How Lakefield, Ont., contributed to the global fight against polio

The steps to eradicate the polio virus is taking decades.

Still, the global effort from several organizations to immunize against polio has taken the incidents of the virus from more than 122 countries to just 3 in 2019. The number of cases has gone from hundreds-of-thousands to less than 500.

The polio virus is eradicated in the western world and the village of Lakefield, Ont., was a stepping stone in making that happen.
