Levels of violence and homicide in Ontario’s long-term care homes have have sparked a call to improve care standards.
A report called Situation Critical was created by the Ontario Health Coalition after multiple complaints were brought forward by families and care workers in long-term care homes.
The report says there were 29 homicides in 6 years in long-term care homes across Ontario.
It also states that resident-to-resident violence has increased since 2011, and staff injury rates are among the highest of any industry.
On Jan. 28, the Peterborough Health Coalition will meet with Members of Parliament for a public hearing to the address the health care needs in our city.
