Following a visit to a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) detention centre in Alamogordo, New Mexico, Senator Jeff Merkley described the current child detention process as “Trump’s war on migrant children.” Merkley was part of a delegation led by Rep. Joaquin Castro to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of 8-year-old Felipe Gomez Alonzo, of Guatemala, in CBP custody.
