A tree that grew too big for one Cobourg, Ont., family’s property will now be the centre piece of Christmas celebrations in the town.
When Nancy Oliver decided it was time for the big Norway Spruce in front of her family’s home on East House Crescent to come down,
local landscaper Ryan Coughlin approached the town to see if it would like to use it for this year’s Christmas tree.
On Wednesday morning, he volunteered his time to cut the near 45-foot high tree down and transport it – complete with a police escort- to the Cobourg harbour front.
For the last ten years Coughlin had been putting lights on this tree for the holidays…
making it a neighbourhood attraction. Now- it will be a town-wide attraction as the centrepiece for the annual Christmas Magic display at the waterfront park.
Christmas Magic kicks off Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. at Victoria Hall. The harbourfront lighting is at 7 p.m.
