Cleanup project tackles the Highway of Heroes

A group of volunteers is keeping their commitment to clean the entire section of the Highway of Heroes – the stretch of road on Highway 401 from Canadian Forces Base Trenton to Toronto.

The cleanup involves military veterans, Durham and Northumberland first responders, police officers and supporters of the military who spent the last three weeks gathering garbage off the 344 kilometers of highway roadside.
The cleanup is done twice yearly and this is the fourth event leading up to remembrance day.
The project was spearheaded by Kerri Tadeu who adopted the Highway of Heroes. She was inspired to help after the loss of her friend Major Michelle Knight Mendes who died in 2009 while serving in Afghanistan.
