BC Housing has leased a building on Leon Avenue in Kelowna until the end of March for a winter shelter. It is operated by the John Howard Society.
The shelter will be open 24/7, and will serve two hot meals a day. Pets will be welcome at the shelter. The executive director of the John Howard Society says the shelter will be staffed. Gaelene Askeland says violence and weapons will not be tolerated and respect will be encouraged, but there will be no rules regarding sobriety to stay at the shelter.
