“Mother Teresa” of Peterborough inspires support and inclusion of the marginalized, even after her death.

Advocate for the homeless Dan Hennessey leads a local team to pursue development of “Carol’s Place” . Prior to her death, poverty advocate/activist Carol Winter played a role in designing the mandate for the project, only to later learn it would be named after her. The first pitch was declined, but interest in the community hub is renewed now that the community has lost a tireless advocate and activist . Carol Winter passed away October 19, at the age of 75. For her lifelong efforts advocating for the marginalized, she had earned the respect of police, community agencies, community leaders and those most challenged by poverty, mental illness and addiction. The proposed “Carol’s Place” envisions among other things, “meeting isolation with inclusivity” , and fill a gap in care not currently addressed by existing organizations.
