Accused killer claims self-defence and intoxication at Kelowna murder trial

The dead man speaks to the jury through the physical evidence and the mouths of witnesses. So said the prosecutor Monday as he argued for a guilty verdict during final submissions at a Kelowna murder trial. There’s no question who the killer is. Daniel Garth Ruff admits to the slaying of Warren Welters. The jury has to determine if it is second-degree murder or self-defence. It also has to determine if alcohol intoxication played a mitigating role.
