Fort McMurray resident contemplated leaving after wildfire but ‘missed home’

Lucinda Fougere’s son was celebrating his ninth birthday on May 3, 2016, the day Fort McMurray was evacuated due to the wildfire now known as The Beast. She contemplated leaving Fort McMurray for good, but said ultimately, she learned the northern Alberta community was home.
