Admitted killer awarded new trial because of judge’s mistakes

It was a chance encounter that resulted in the brutal murder of an Okanagan teenager. The killer of Taylor Van Diest later convicted of first-degree murder. But now the guilty verdict for Matthew Foerster has been overturned. In an unanimous decision by the BC Court of Appeal, three justices agreed mistakes by the trial judge mean Foerster must get a new trial.
