U.S. lawmakers roll back Obama-era gun checks, scuttle regulations on coal mining dumping

The Republican-controlled Congress on Thursday scrapped Obama-era rules on the environment and guns, as the Senate approved a measure to eliminate a rule preventing coal mining debris from being dumped into streams, while the House backed a resolution to do away with extended background checks for gun purchases by some Social Security recipients with mental disabilities.
