Last year China’s top soccer teams spent hundreds of millions of dollars to recruit foreign players and coaches. European clubs fear this exodus of top talent will upset the balance of power in soccer. But as Redmond Shannon reports Beijing says the clubs are burning money and the communist government is putting an end to the big spending.
