Icelandic women perform famous ‘thunderclap’ cheer during gender pay gap protest

Icelandic women used the thunderclap — the communal clap that became synonymous with Iceland over the course of the Euro 2016 soccer tournament — during a gender pay gap protest October 24. Women across Iceland walked out of work at 2.38pm, which symbolizes the time in an eight-hour working day when, factoring in the pay disparity, women stop getting paid.
