Peshmerga fighters advanced toward Iraq’s al-Hamdaniya district, an Islamic State-stronghold southeast of Mosul, on Monday, October 17, just hours after Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced the launch of a campaign to retake the city, which has been held by the militant group since June 2014.
