An animal rights campaign group has critised zoos as inhumane and profit-oriented, following the brief escape of a gorilla from London zoo on Thursday evening. Kirsty Henderson of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said on Friday the incident was evidence the gorilla was unhappy in his enclosure and that zoos primary purpose was to make money and not the conservation of animals.
