Teacher Barbara Morgan was the runner up for the “Teacher in Space” program in 1985 to Christa McAuliffe, and watched as she and the rest of the space shuttle Challenger crew were lost in the 1986 Challenger disaster. Morgan would later go to space herself in 2007.
