1 dead following pileup on Hwy. 401 in Cobourg: OPP

One person is dead and four others were injured following a multi-vehicle pileup on Highway 401 in the Cobourg area on Thursday.
Northumberland OPP say a 70-year-old man from Colborne, Ont., died in the series of crashes which happened around noontime in the westbound lanes near Burnham Street.
The pileup included 15 vehicles which included two transport trucks, OPP said.
Four other people were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police report.
The two lanes were closed until 2:45 a.m. Friday as OPP investigated.
Police note heavy lake effect now was impacting driving conditions throughout the region.
Investigators are asking for anyone who may have witnessed or has video/dash camera footage of the collisions and has not spoken with police, to contact the Northumberland OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
