Ukraine’s surge into Russian territory last week caught Moscow by surprise, seizing the initiative from Russian forces who have been grinding out small but steady gains all year in the east of the country. Ukrainians are reacting to the military incursion into Russia’s Kursk region. “This is good news, but I would like to see our own regions returned,” said one woman in Dnipro, Ukraine. Others weren’t so forgiving, as another remarked “of course we don’t need these territories. But they need to feel what we felt.”
