A major prisoner exchange took place between the U.S. and Russia, which is possibly the largest since the Cold War. This resulted in many detained in Russia being returned to their home countries – 16 people, including Americans. This included Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich and ex-U.S. Marine Paul Whelan. As Reggie Cecchini explains, this marks the third swap in just over two years.
