California wildfires: Governor Newsom declares state of emergency as Thompson fire spreads

A fast-spreading wildfire in northern California has engulfed over 2,000 acres, driven by dry conditions and high winds. The blaze, known as the Thompson wildfire, originally started in a sparsely populated area but has since advanced towards the town of Oroville, prompting the evacuation of thousands of residents. California Gov. Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency in Butte County on Wednesday to support the response to the Thompson Fire.
