The United States Supreme Court rejected a nationwide settlement with Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin, on Thursday. This settlement would have protected the Sackler family, who own the company, from civil lawsuits related to opioids. However, it would have also contributed billions of dollars to address the opioid epidemic. Additionally, the court dismissed a case from Idaho, allowing women to receive emergency abortions despite a near-total ban, and blocked an environmental regulation aimed at curbing harmful air pollution that crosses state lines.
