This year, the backdrop of Canada’s National Indigenous Peoples Day includes an intended apology by the federal government over the system harm inflicted on Indigenous families by the child welfare system. There’s still growing frustration over the Canadian government’s long list of promises to Indigenous peoples — followed by little action. Two NASA astronauts are preparing to spend more unexpected time in space. Engineers are scrambling to fix issues with the Boeing Starliner capsule, plagued with technical difficulties. The astronauts are stranded, but safe, on the International Space Station. Plus, Canada has been keen to find ways to get people into electric vehicles (EVs) and out of gas-guzzling cars that produce harmful greenhouse gas emissions. Governments have been using regulations and subsidies with the goal of speeding up the transition to EVs.
