Macron defends decision to call snap election, suspend electoral reform in New Caledonia

French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday defended his decision to call a snap election after his party’s crushing defeat in the European Parliamentary vote, adding that he would not resign if his camp does not win. He also defended his decision to suspend electoral reform in New Caledonia after the planned changes triggered deadly civil unrest, resulting in the deaths of at least nine people.
