Responding to a reporter’s question about the possibility of a national wildfire fighting force during an update in Ottawa on Wednesday, Minister of Emergency Preparedness Harjit Sajjan said that the federal government is exploring a number of options to improve wildfire response, but that the timing of creating a national force at the moment “would be extremely off.” Sajjan elaborated that “if we were to set up a force right now, we’ll be actually drawing from the resources that are actually needed at the municipal and the provincial level.”
